Violence and Sexuality Represented in Video Games!

Borderlands

What is the game about?
Borderlands is about several fortune seekers, including the player, that are drawn to the planet by a legend of an unopened Vault. After arriving at the town of Fyrestone, the player sees an image of a mysterious woman, the "Guardian Angel", who is aware they are here to seek the Vault and directs them to follow her instructions/missions, to complete the game. There are 126 missions in the game. 46 of these are part of the main story of the game, while the other 80 missions are side missions that will not directly further progress through the storyline. Some missons include the 'Circle of Slaughter', 'Jack's Other Eye' etc. All missions relate to a lot of violence and it is quite gory. This is known because even in the trailer of the game some parts of censored for there violence and gore.
Who is the video game aimed at? What age has it been classified?
It is obviously not a game for young people and would probably be aimed at boys because girls are not usually intrested in violence and gory things. The age rating from the BBFC and PEGI is 18+ which is a fair rating because the graphics and content of the game is not appropriate for people under this age.
What issues might surround the game?
Borderlandscover.jpgIssues that could be a result from this game is that young people having ideas that it is okay to be violent even though it is a fantasy game (Copy-cat behavior). It glamorizes violence and killing but also gun use as that is a major theme in the game. As we are not 18 and have never played the game we cannot give an opinion but from the trailer we would not like the play this game because the violence is not something we would recommend for people under the age limit!
